Big Sur Dive, Jade Cove

Two weeks ago, a group of us headed down the coast to dive Big Sur, Ca. I typically dive up North for Abalone, but since the season hasn't started and since it's been ridiculously nice weather, I thought this was a chance to check out what the Central Coast had to offer.

After reading up on Big Sur's famous coastline, it didn't take long to find out about Jade Cove. Divers and rock collectors have been going there since the 70's in hunt for the precious stone, so we thought we'd take a stab at it and become filthy rich rock collectors.

The diving conditions were perfect. 12 ft visability and almost no swell, made it easy to do some exploring. Once I entered the water, I instantly saw a giant ling cod, and decided to change from rock hunting to spearfishing. I didn't get anything but I did follow Eric around, who got a nice Rock fish that we grilled that afternoon. No Jade was found underwater, but we all grabbed a few small pieces on shore.

I shot my little sea and sea camera underwater and my mamiya 7 on land. Here are the black and whites, a few colors to come. Check out George's blog for his photos and a more detailed tale of the trip. -Tim

Yosemite backpacking Part 1

Early this summer, I trekked out to North Yosemite with friends and backpacked the many small lakes of Tuolumne meadows. It was my first time back to Yosemite in a decade, and it was just as amazing as I remember it. A flash thunderstorm had us rushing to the destination on the first day, but the next day the weather cleared and we had a lake to swim and fish all weekend. Another set of photos soon. – Tim Gatto Yosemite June 2014

15th & Harrison Mural – Oakland

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to see a mural going up on a big wall in the parking lot on 15th & Harrison in downtown Oakland. I stopped by throughout the day and snapped some photos of the progress. The mural is a collaboration by Chicago based artists, Clam Nation, Nice One, Lady Lucx, and Espir. It looks great, stop by and check it out. Untitled

A Photoset from Arizona

I recently took a trip to Arizona to visit Sean who is in flight school in Phoenix. We went on some hikes, saw some spring training games, and checked out the local terrain. While I was down there I shot medium format film exclusively, which was nice. The whole trip was a lot of fun. Thanks to Will for letting me borrow his awesome camera, here's some photos. –Tim 31910_AZ_mamiya006_2_lores
